First, Kelly says that she doesn’t post job descriptions; rather, she presents the problem that she expects a new associate to solve for her firm. Then, Kelly says that she and her hiring panel ask candidates to answer questions that allow her team insight into their behavior. “My favorite three questions involve asking what they already know about advertising and in particular our approach to it, how they found out about the importance of what we do for our clientele, and what their favorite facet of our business model is.”
Once a potential hire makes it past these checkpoints, it’s time to find out about his or her personal brand by visiting their social media and personal websites. “This information is far more revealing than a resume, and we make it clear that the answers to our questions plus some links are all we want.”
Finally, Kelly sets a time limit on the submission of these unique applications (about 10 days, she said), and has them send the information directly to her via an email address set up exclusively for this purpose. “Slackers won’t bother with all the extra effort, anyone who doesn’t read directions is easily eliminated, and the 10-day time limit keeps the process moving forward quickly. It’s a really great system,” Kelly stated proudly.

The management team and ten top performers at Valley Events, Inc. have been invited to attend the rest and relaxation retreat in Cancun, Mexico in January. “This is such a great trip!
